Local seamstress and textile artist Claire Humphries is teaching this fundraiser to make beautiful handsewn bookmarks. Knowing Masham, Claire understands the importance of the Community Office to Masham and the surrounding villages. Along with all staff and tutors, Claire is giving her time for free, to deliver this unique and fun 3 hour session to help us raise the funds to buy the MCO building and save its vital services for Masham.

During this relaxing morning with Claire, you’ll have fun creating beautiful bookmarks in some surprising ways. Minimal sewing skills required – all you need is a pack of needles and a sharp pair of scissors! You’ll be delighted by the creative designs that can be achieved using a variety of fabrics, bonding, colour and stitching. You will be snipping your own designs from a top layer, which will act as a framework for fabric. We anticipate you’ll go home with a pair of highly personalised and beautiful bookmarks to mark your place or give as gorgeous gifts.

After 3 hours in Claire’s sweatshop, you’ll have worked up an appetite, so a two course homemade ArtisOn lunch is all included at around 12:30pm. Lunch will finish by 1:30pm.

Click on the title below to find a list of what you’ll need to bring with you.

What to expect

Time at ArtisOn is designed to take you away from it all and provide the environment, the time and the guidance you need to create. You can expect a warm welcome, skilled and friendly tutors plus the chance to meet like-minded people keen to share ideas and experiences.

There will usually be two workshops going on and we encourage everyone to mingle and be nosey about what the other workshop is up to!

Arrive in time to meet other participants over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits before beginning your session at the appointed time. There will be a mid-session break for refreshments and a chance to talk over progress with others. All refreshments are included.

Finish time is given as a target – there are occasions when the session may overrun so do let us know if you need to be away promptly.

“Obviously highly skilled and experienced, Claire guided us really well. I was a complete beginner and she gave clear instructions and good encouragement. I enjoyed the whole experience , the expertise, the company and the lunch. I will definitely be back.”
